JOB PURPOSE:

At H3X, we are building the most advanced electric motors in the world for sustainable aviation, marine, industrial, and defense applications. At >10 kW/kg power density, the HPDM integrated motor drives represent a step change in electric motor technology and remove one of the main barriers blocking widespread proliferation of electric and hybrid aircraft. Our motors range in size from 30 kW to 30 MW and are 3X lighter than competitors’.

About the Role: We are looking to hire a Head of Business Development who will be responsible for all sales and strategic initiatives to supercharge H3X’s revenue. The applications for our products are broad and we are looking for someone who will excel within multiple industries and market sectors. These can be broken out by power level, as shown below.

All of H3X’s products are dual-use and our technology is enabling next-generation electrified defense vehicles. As a result, the ideal candidate will have prior experience with US government and defense business development. H3X has already completed a Direct-to-Phase II contract with the Air Force and we are continuing to work towards integrating our products into one or more Programs of Record. Our Head of Business Development must be comfortable navigating the DoD ecosystem and other government agencies to help secure contracts that will generate significant long-term revenue for H3X.

The Head of Business Development will have three primary initiatives:
  1. Generate sales and ink long-term/high-volume contracts with customers in all target markets.
  2. Develop and execute a roadmap to a Program of Record with relevant services.
  3. Work with CEO to ensure H3X meets or exceeds annual revenue goals.
This role will report directly to the CEO. The position is a hybrid role based in Colorado. We believe that an onsite presence is essential for team integration and shaping the company culture. With that said, this role will also require traveling to conferences, customers, Washington D.C., etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop an excellent technical understanding of our products and the benefits they can offer to our customers. This role will need to converse with both engineers and business leaders so it’s important to be both technically conversational and business savvy.
  • Own the entire sales cycle; from first engagement to inking a contract / purchase order.
  • Draft contracts, letters of intent, and purchase orders. This will require interfacing with legal counsel and H3X leadership.
  • Lead negotiations and close deals with customers and suppliers that contribute to the company's financial and strategic goals.
  • Handle all inbound website inquiries relating to H3X’s products, hold initial meetings to assess product-customer fit, and quantify business opportunity for H3X.
  • Engage with target customers and key decision-makers; must be eager to forge strong relationships and not get stuck behind a desk.
  • Craft well-written proposals for SBIRs and commercial customers including RFP and RFI responses. Internally coordinate with H3X team as needed.
  • Manage all work done in Ariba, Exostars, and/or other business networks.
  • Travel to represent H3X at industry conferences, trade shows, etc. and promote both our brand and technologies.
  • Build and lead a high-performing sales and business development team, fostering a culture of technical excellence in communication, extreme ownership, and the highest level of integrity. With that said, this will be a single-person team to start and will work closely with the CEO to drive sales and revenue growth.
  • Work alongside H3X leadership to determine business development strategies and priorities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High intelligence, high energy, and high integrity
  • 5+ years of professional experience with sales and/or business development at a hard-tech or deep-tech company
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator. Must be able to communicate highly technical concepts in a correct and easily-understood manner
  • Expertise in deal strategy and strong negotiation skills
  • Thorough understanding of the defense SBIR and acquisition processes
  • Confident, humble and open-minded
  • Exhibits a high degree of emotional intelligence: ability to collaborate closely with coworkers in a respectful and empathetic manner
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment.
  • Experience with proposal writing for both commercial and defense customers
  • Ability to access export-controlled data.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
