JOB PURPOSE:
At H3X, we are building the most advanced electric motors in the world for sustainable aviation, marine, industrial, and defense applications. At 12 kW/kg continuous, the HPDM family of integrated motor drives is a step change in electric propulsion technology and removes one of the main barriers blocking widespread proliferation of electric and hybrid aircraft. Our motors range in size from 30 kW to 30 MW, include integrated drives, and are 3X lighter than competitors’ systems.
About the Role: H3X is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Test Engineer to design, maintain, and operate test equipment. As part of a fast-paced, highly technical team, the engineer will play a key role in designing new test cells, executing tests, and maintaining equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- REQUIREMENTS / CONCEPT
- Identify root cause of failures.
- Establish requirements for given equipment.
- Understand facility-level limitations and solutions.
- DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING
- Make complex machines easy to use and troubleshoot through intentional user interface design.
- Create engineering drawings for machined components, tools, and fixtures.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups and convey via GD&T in engineering drawings.
- Create electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics for test cells.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety and reliability standards for test cells to guarantee safety of personnel while also training required personnel on safety, use, and other best practices of equipment.
- TEST OPERATIONS
- Create test plans and validation instructions.
- Execute testing and characterization of motor drive systems.
- Monitor critical data for stop criteria during testing activities.
- DATA ANALYSIS
- Post process data to convey test results.
- Identify root-cause of issues and make recommendations to meet the highest level of reliability and performance .
- Generate detailed test reports including detailed figures, high-level summary of critical test results, and relevant conclusions.
- Analyze data across numerous tests and draw conclusions on repeatability and reliability.
- OTHER
- Identify workplace hazards and implement safe processes.
- Maintain testing and production equipment where necessary.
- Bachelor’s or Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Hands-on experience assembling mechanical systems
- 2+ years of CAD software experience (SolidWorks preferred)
- 2+ years’ experience with producing 2D part drawings & GD&T
- Experience with high voltage and cooling system design
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Organized and strong attention to detail.
- Advanced understanding of engineering fundamentals.
- Action based, results-driven mentality.
- Willingness to learn quickly.
- A high degree of emotional intelligence: ability to collaborate closely with coworkers in a respectful and empathetic manner.
- Fundamentally curious and motivated by first principles.
- Position requires access to CUI/ITAR/EAR controlled information.
- 5+ years of experience as a Test Engineer
- Experience in dynamometer test cells and thermal test chambers
- Experience working in a startup environment
- Experience with designing CE stamped equipment
