Mechanical Integration Engineer
JOB PURPOSE:
At H3X, we are building the most advanced electric motors in the world for sustainable aviation, marine, industrial, and defense applications. At 12 kW/kg continuous, the HPDM family of integrated motor drives is a step change in electric propulsion technology and removes one of the main barriers blocking widespread proliferation of electric and hybrid aircraft. Our motors range in size from 30 kW to 30 MW and are 3X lighter than competitors’ systems.
About the Role: H3X is looking to hire an experienced Mechanical Integration Engineer to develop application-specific systems and assemblies for H3X’s HPDG products, from prototype to low-volume production. Candidates should be experienced in the entire product development cycle including requirements definition, design and analysis, and test and validation. There are several projects that we are actively engaged on with customers including high power density gensets, battery-electric powerplants, and specialized propulsion systems. This role will be a key part of the core engineering team and will have a direct impact on the trajectory of the company by helping to land multi-year high volume contracts with our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish requirements for complete systems.
- Identify optimal conceptual designs and potential architectures that meet program requirements.
- Design parts and assemblies utilizing SolidWorks.
- Generate engineering drawings via SolidWorks using GD&T standards, including the creation of tolerance. stack-ups to identify critical design characteristics.
- Conduct PDRs and CDRs.
- Design systems for application-specific cooling, electrical, and mechanical integration.
- Compile Bill of Materials and source components for assemblies.
- Work with technicians to help build initial prototypes.
- Create work instructions for first articles.
- Create Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) for systems.
- Execute testing and characterization of prototypes.
- Identify root causes of failures that occur in the prototyping process.
- Post-process test results and make design modifications to meet the highest level of reliability and performance.
- Integrate systems into customer applications.
- Support future production builds and complete system tests.
- Maintain testing and production equipment where necessary.
Required Qualifications
- High intelligence, high energy, and high integrity.
- Bachelor’s or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 2+ years of professional experience with mechanical system design and integration.
- High level of proficiency with SolidWorks and ANSYS.
- Exceptional knowledge of manufacturability and various manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing.
- Excellent written and verbal communicator to effectively share knowledge and build the collective mindshare of the company.
- Organized and obsessive attention to detail: no room for oversight when designing flight critical systems.
- Humble and open minded: willingness to accept feedback and learn, consistently improve upon yourself and the product for which you will be responsible.
- A high degree of emotional intelligence: ability to collaborate closely with coworkers in a respectful and empathetic manner.
- Fundamentally curious and motivated my first principles.
- Ability to access export-controlled data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electric and hybrid vehicle architecture and design considerations.
- Experience with reverse engineering assemblies.
- Experience with engine or propulsion systems.
- Taking designs from concept to production in automotive or aerospace industries.
- Familiar with lean R&D design and manufacturing.
- Experience with designing and testing DO-160G / MIL-810G / or other environmental specifications.
Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000 USD
